THIS BANJO IS ON HOLD - This is a Stromberg DeLuxe built by Charles A. Stromberg in Boston, Mass. in the 1920's. Stromberg was a small builder with only a few employees and is best know for the Cuppophone tone ring which feature round "sockets" brazed to a metal base with a round brass ring sitting on top.
Neck - is made from nicely figured maple with a 3 piece center lamination, dark back strap with Stromberg mother of pearl inlay, multi-colored fingerboard underlay, deep and crisp heel carving, ebony fingerboard with unique mother of pearl inlays, and original tuners with mother of pearl buttons.
Rim - looks to be maple with the arch top Cuppophone tone ring (described above), nickle plated and punched flange, tension ring, and armrest. The resonator has engraved celluloid side and a mahogany back.
Setup - This is setup for Irish trad in GDAE tuning
Case - possibly original case
Notes - This is a great banjo and was my "main player" for 4 or 5 months last year. The neck on this banjo is very narrow from the nut to the heel and is easy to play. There is a little relief but does not affect anything. There is missing inlay on the peghead. The dowel stick was replaced prior to me owning this. There are also grooves beside some of the frets from previous fret work.
