All original 1925 Gibson TB3 tenor banjo with case and additional 19 fret neck. This banjo is in excellent condition and plays great setup for Irish trad.
The rim is 3/4" thick 3 ply maple with a ball bearing tone rim. The rim show barely any imperfections. The resonator is also in great shape with only minor wear and scratching on the back. It retains both the chalk and pencil FON numbers on the inside with also match the FON on the rim. The metal hardware is all original and in excellent condition. There is some wear and finish loss on some of the hooks. It has a vintage 5 star head installed. There is a replacement tailpiece on the banjo currently, but the original Presto is included in the sale. I prefer the setup with the Waverly. The armrest is also original. It is missing the 4 original resonator screws.
Necks - The original neck is 18 frets with a 20 3/4" scale length. The neck was refretted and a light coat of french polish shellac was added to protect the original Gibson finish. The peghead was also touched up to bring back the beautiful rich black finish. There is very minimal wear but you can see 3 spots in the pictures where the original Gibson "red" finish is worn, which is almost inevitable on any Gibson of this era that was played. The 19 fret neck is a scale length of 22 3/4 and does show more wear. This neck is from 1926 or later and new original Gibson hanger bolts were added so it will bolt directly to the 1925 rim.
This banjo can be setup and shipped with either the 18 fret short scale or the 19 fret long scale. The strings are intentionally left long to allow for ease in changing the neck for the buyer. They will be cut before shipping.
